But if you are unable to get away to far flung corners of the Earth then reading about other more adventurous people is the next best thing…
The book doing the rounds at Athleat HQ at the moment is Ed’s “Naked & Marooned”. A story about a man who heads off to an uninhabited island for 60 days with nothing…including clothes. If you haven’t read it yet give it a go.
After reading it you will further understand just how lucky we are to have great food on our doorstep (Athleat’s high quality meat of course).
Inspired we decided to get in touch with the man who survived pretty much on snails for 60 days (until he managed to nab a Goat!).
So who is Ed? We asked the man himself…
“Ed Stafford is the Guinness World Record-holding first man to walk the Amazon. Sir Ranulph Fiennes described the former British Army captain’s expedition as being “truly extraordinary… in the top league of expeditions past and present.” edstafford.org
He was made European Adventurer of the Year 2011 and is a key face of adventure on Discovery Channel with series including Naked and Marooned, Marooned with Ed Stafford, and Into the Unknown with Ed Stafford. Last year viewing figures were 95 million viewers worldwide.
Ed has written two books: Walking the Amazon, and Naked and Marooned and in between adventures Ed gives motivational talks to corporates all over the world.
Ed was awarded the Mungo Park Medal by the Royal Scottish Geographical Society in recognition of outstanding contributions to geographical knowledge through exploration and he is a global ambassador for Land Rover and the Scouts.
In 2015 Ed led Joe Simpson (Touching the Void) on a 5-week jungle expedition into Burma which was made into a BBC2 documentary broadcast in May 2016.
Ed is currently planning a new world first expedition for the end of 2016 that is currently top secret. But before that he has the small matter of getting married in September. If Laura gets home in time. :)”
