Steak for Breakfast – Start Your Day Right!

A good, nutritious and filling breakfast provides you with mountains of energy, which is especially important when it comes to sticking to your health and fitness regime.

And by including a good amount of protein, you can even help to curb the munchies.

Protein helps to support stable blood sugar, and it’s when your blood sugar dips that the munchies set in.

So, whilst steak for breakfast might sound crazy, it may actually be the healthy start to the day that you need!

No more mid-morning carb heavy snacks that (let’s face it) taste good but don’t do you any good!

There are also a number of other reasons why you might want to give steak for breakfast a go…

      • If you’re building muscle, steak is a great way to start the day with a protein-rich breakfast.
      • It’s a Paleo-friendly and Keto-friendly option for those of you on either of those diets.
      • Steaks, especially grass fed beef steaks, are a great source of other key nutrients (such as omega fats and CLAs) required by our bodies. By eating it for breakfast, it’s an extra meal to get these nutrients from.
      • It’s just downright delicious – why wouldn’t you want an excuse to have juicy steak for breakfast?!

Now the question is…

Which Steak Cut Should You Choose For Breakfast?

You can eat any cut of steak for breakfast but, depending on your protein intake for example, you might want to choose specific steaks.

Here’s the average nutritional values of some of the most popular cuts of steak (per 225g/8oz):

  • Fillet Steak
    Calories: 225kcals | Protein: 48.15g | Fat: 3.6g
  • Rib Eye Steak
    Calories: 259kcals | Protein: 52.65g | Fat: 5.4g
  • Sirloin Steak
    Calories: 259kcals | Protein: 52.65g | Fat: 5.4g
  • Rump Steak
    Calories: 450kcals | Protein: 47.9g | Fat: 28.8g
  • Flat Iron Steak
    Calories: 259kcals | Protein: 52.65g | Fat: 5.4g
  • T-Bone Steak
    Calories: 357.82kcals | Protein: 51.05g | Fat: 17.1g

Likewise, you’ll probably want to opt for a more tender cut of steak for breakfast. If this is the case – fillet is the one to go for.

As this cut is taken from near the kidneys, it’s a muscle that’s rarely used, which is what gives it its tenderness.

Best Steak Breakfast Pairings

Whilst steak is incredibly enticing all on its own, you can really up your breakfast’s nutritional benefits by pairing it with some of these:

      • Steak and eggs. Steak and eggs make for a high protein, Paleo-friendly and Keto-friendly breakfast. It’s low-carb, high fat and incredibly filling, making it a great way to start the day and curb any cravings.
      • Steak and potatoes. Whilst potatoes mean carbs, they will still help to create a filling breakfast. If you’re on a Keto-style diet, swap white potatoes for sweet potatoes.
      • Steak and fruit/veg. Pairing your steak with fruit and/or veg will add even more key nutrients to your breakfast – they’re high in vitamins and minerals, and often low in calories depending on your preferred choice.
      • Steak and nuts. If steak didn’t seem like an odd breakfast choice, perhaps steak and nuts does?! This combination can be great for fat loss and for building muscle, as it’s packed with protein and healthy fats.
