Grass fed lamb meat is better for you…

When compared with grain fed lamb, grass fed lamb meat is proven to be richer in certain nutrients that boast many health benefits. It is:

  • A good source of vitamin B-12, niacin, zinc and iron.
  • High in CLAs (conjugated linoleic acid) and omega-3 fatty acids, which are known to have anti-cancer, anti-diabetes and anti-fat properties.
  • Lower in fat and higher in protein (around 14% less fat and 8% more protein) when compared with grain fed lamb.

But not only is it nutritionally better, we think our grass fed lamb is full of flavour and also tastes better… (Don’t believe us? Give our lamb products a try!)

Rearing grass fed lambs doesn’t just produce better meat for you, it also means a better life for the livestock and it’s kinder to the environment too…

Grass fed lamb is kinder to the animals and the environment…

Grass fed livestock tend to be in better health when compared with more intensively-reared animals. This is due to their free range lifestyle and means they don’t need to be continually given antibiotics to avoid infections. The only antibiotics administered are those for infections that do actually develop.

Overcrowding is also less of an issue, as can sometimes be found with intensively-reared livestock, which means the fields can be used sparingly. With rest periods between grazing, the farmers can allow for the pasture to recover fully, which reduces overgrazing and vastly reduces any soil erosion problems too.

And because the cattle aren’t intensively farmed, overcrowding is less of an issue, which means that the fields can be used sparingly. With a 30-45 day rest period between grazing, the farmers can allow for the pasture to recover fully. The farms we utilise are also large, so there is less of a chance of overgrazing. This vastly reduces any soil erosion problems too.
